Even with all the computer gadgets, books, and material on the web that fascinates me throughout my day, that keeps me utterly engaged, it’s wonderful to get away. To get away and interact with the world around me.

When I need to take a break from the ins and outs of computerdom I grab my camera and I take a walk. I take a walk or sometimes take a drive, and sometimes the outdoors comes to me. But, however it’s done, the trip is never disappointing.

Take for instance the trip that lead me to discover the Robin’s Nest right outside my window. I still have the wide-eyed wonder of a child when it comes to such things. And I hope to never lose it.

Then there’s the trip that lead me to discover the Cardinal. This Cardinal likes my neighbors car. He will land on the mirror or the door window ledge and flutter there before he starts his little game of jumping from the mirror to the ledge to the ground, three times and then flies away, only to come back later to do the ritual again. Day after day after day.

Or the trip that lead me to rush to grab my camera because a Canadian Goose was inspecting my balcony. That could have gotten very messy and ended very badly. But I managed to create enough of a disturbance that caused the goose to fly away.

On one trip I met a Mallard duck couple who took to an over-drenched lawn as opposed to a gushing river stream down the road. There was the squirrel with an all white tail. Which made me think, “Is this an old squirrel?” Have you ever seen an old squirrel? Or even a baby squirrel?

And then, there was the cute little gray tree frog who greeted me as I returned home from one of my trips.

So, I guess I really didn’t take a full break from my computerdom. I guess I’m really tethered, since I then take the camera and connect it to the computer to download the images. But however it’s connected, it is always a relaxing trip.

What do you do to take time out to relax from your grind?
