The chances of me standing on my Soapbox to those outside my immediate family circle are slim to none, but today I feel compelled.
While I was laboring over what to write about this week, I looked toward every corner to not write about what was in my heart. And after hours of wasted time, I came right back to it: Health. My family laughs when I give them that “mothers sideward glance”; then they put the unhealthy item back on the shelf or hide it until I’m out of sight.
Last week, while I was in New York, I asked the question “How has technology enhanced your summer or even your life.”
For me, my iPod has been that one piece of technology that has single-handedly enhanced my life; most notedly, my health life. It has pushed me through every workout that I just didn’t feel like completing, been my companion through hours of solitary tennis serves, and helped me breathe through the many yoga poses I’ve twisted my body into.
Being health aware, I’ve scoured the App Store of the many health conscious and exercise related apps. And yes, “there’s an app for that”, even if your need goes no further than walking. But, whether you use technology to aid or enhance your health or not, the bottom line is that you just do something other than look at the weights lying on the floor, as you pass them by; or use the exercise bike as a clothes rack.
What has this all to do with my Soapbox?
As big sisters do, I’m going to have a long talk with my brother as we lay him to rest; who as years past by, looked at the weights lying on the floor, as he, too, passed them by.
And you, there’s someone who might love and miss you…find that technology that pushes you to better health; ball, shoes, app; and pick up that weight.
