St. Clair Software has been around for a long time. I can’t remember a time when I didn’t have Default Folder running on my systems. They recently released a new utility called Jettison. To quote their website, Jettison eliminates the hassle of manually ejecting external drives before you put your MacBook to sleep. With Jettison, you just close your MacBook, unplug and go. So simple. Now, if you never use an external drive with your laptop, you don’t need this, but I don’t like to take chances. While most of my important data is backed up to one of several cloud servers, I still want a full backup on an external drive. Or two. Hey, once burned, twice cautious. My iMac has 3 external drives for backups and archives.
My iMac is never moved, so I don’t worry about drives becoming disconnected. My MacBook Air is another matter. If I’ve had an external drive connected and I want to take the laptop somewhere, I don’t want to go through the hassle of waking it up, waiting for the external drive to wake up, then ejecting it before I can disconnect it. With Jettison, when you close that lid or put the system to sleep, it automatically unmounts your external drives, leaving you free to disconnect it whenever you choose. No more messages about not putting the drive away properly. If I still want to use the drive, Jettison automatically mounts it as soon as the computer wakes up. Simple.
Try it free for 15 days. If you like it and find it useful, it’s only $1.99 through the Mac App Store.
With MLB playoffs under way, I just have to say GO TIGERS!
