At the latest meeting of MacGroup Detroit, I was reminded that some of our members donated a bunch of used computers to a number of private schools in the area more than a decade ago. I was amazed to find that many of those “antiques” are still in use by pre-schoolers in a couple of local private schools, and they are learning from them. It says something for our Apple technology.
That said, many of us will be getting new computers or iPads or iPods for the Holidays. What will you do with the old ones? Think about passing that “old” iMac on to a youngster who could benefit from it. Pass it on to a senior who can use it to keep in touch with family no longer in the area. Have youngsters in school? Check with the school to see if they could use it in a classroom or the library.
If you know of a school that would welcome the donation of a computer (or 2, or 10) please let us know about it. We always have people asking if we know who can use their old technology, rather than sending it to a recycling plant. Maybe it’s time to start a list of schools and pre-schools that would welcome our older equipment.
Happy Holidays to all!
