On August 20, 2006 we celebrated our 20th Anniversary. With close to 400 people in attendance the meeting started early with a "State of the Group" address by Terry White. Then Terry recognized several members for their contributions to the group throughout the the year and he announced the 2006 Frenkel Award winners. Terry also gave a special thanks to Carol Goodell for her efforts in getting Woz to our meetings. Terry then handed the stage over to Chita Hunter. Chita prepared a series of tributes and presentations in Terry's honor for his 20 years of service to MacGroup-Detroit. The presentations started with a video hello from Michael Balas and letters from David Syme and Pete Bauer. Then rather than read a note from Scott Kelby, Scott actually surprised everyone by walking out and delivering his congratulations in person. Scott paid his tribute in the form of a hilarious video titled Terry White TV. Next Jamie Feldman presented Terry with a painting by MacGroup member Carole Kabrin. Terry then called up Ron Hartmus from MacMichigan (a major sponsor of this meeting) to tell us about his company. Then we moved on to our keynote speaker, Steve "Woz" Wozniak. Before introducing Woz Terry played a tribute video that he created the last time Woz spoke at our group in 2000. Woz was moved by the video and all the love in the room as was Terry. Rather than deliver a canned speech, Woz just spoke from the heart and fielded questions from the audience. It was like a fireside chat. Very relaxed with lots of audience participation. Apparently a lot of people liked what they saw even though this wasn't our regular meeting style. We had 17 New members join and 18 renewals!
Woz, Terry and Calvin were on the show Saturday, August 19, 2006.
