Meeting Notes - August 2007

MacGroup Meeting in progressOur August meeting was simply "magical." Everything worked out very well. We started a little early with our 2007 Frenkel Awards. This is the time that we spend each year to recognize those outstanding volunteers who give their time, energy and even their money to help make this group a continued success. I was very pleased to add on a new category to the awards this year in terms of iBBS support and to give that award to three deserving members who have gone out of their way to help our members and even those who are not members through our wonderful iBBS (internet bulletin board system).

MacGroup members presented me (Terry White) with a great 21st Anniversary Card, but also the group chipped in $150 and Mike Arlow matched that $150 for a total of $300 for a donation to the group! THANK YOU!

After finishing with the awards we took a short break and then Jennifer and Gordon Bell from Prosoft Engineering took the stage to show their award winning utilities for the Mac. It was obvious by the barrage of questions from the audience that there was clearly an interest in the utilities that Prosoft offers.

At the end of their presentation, Prosoft not only offered a phenomenal "show special" bundle of all of their products, but they even raffled off an external hard drive (you can never have too much drive space) and MacGroup member Shirley Kussner was the lucky one drawn.

We then proceeded with our "anniversary give-a-way" and of course one of the main prizes was the Apple iPhone 8GB model (or you could redeem it at the Apple store and go on a shopping spree). It was clear that the iPhone was a huge draw as we sold more tickets for this drawing than any other drawing in MacGroup history! As a matter of fact it was so successful that we're going to do it again in October! Mike Arlow was the lucky winner of the iPhone which he has decided to keep and use. The other big winner was for our grand prize, the Adobe CS3 Master Collection which was won by none other than David McGuire. David was in shock!

Like I said, all in all it was a magical day! I want to once again thank not only those who volunteer their time, but also those who bought extra tickets for the drawing at this meeting and at previous meetings. Those funds not only go towards great prizes for future drawings, but they also have a direct impact on our operating expenses which means that we can continue to offer the services that we do and at the same time keep from raising our dues. Our costs just about in every area have gone up (including rent at the Temple), however because of your generosity we can continue functioning without raising our dues or charging admission to our meetings. It's great that you contribute to our group in any way that you do, but what's even better is that you remain a member! Don't forget to renew. We want to keep our group strong.
