This time of year all of us have budgets stretched to the limit, so finding freebies is always nice. The iTunes store has new free songs, videos and TV episodes every Tuesday. Just go to the home page on iTunes and scroll to the bottom. Currently, there is even a complete Holiday sampler album.
Are you expecting a new iPod touch or iPhone? The App Store has hundreds of free apps, from games to productivity to just plain time wasters. Even virtual bubblewrap. Want some virtual mistletoe? Get it here.
Amazon.com is also a good source of free music and ebooks. From MP3 singles to entire albums, you never know what you're going to find, but there is generally a link to the latest free music on dealmac.com, as well as some of the newest free App Store applications. Amazon's Kindle Store also has many free books, from old classics like A Christmas Carol to current novels by new authors. And no, you don't need a Kindle to read them. I have the Kindle iPhone app on my touch, there is a new Kindle for PC app available, and the Mac version is in the works.
A final word on Amazon — much as I love the iTunes store, it pays to double check prices on Amazon. Some albums can be several dollars less.
