Friday Friday Friday!

I work with someone who reminds me of my friend so I decided she should be back this week.

Now that things are back to normal ….. Let’s proceed.

Safe and Secure

Do you know about data encryption built into your Mac? Yep Mac OS X has a utility called “File Vault”. It hides is the System Preferences under …. guess……Security. File Vault allows you to protect your data from prying eyes, especially if you should lose your computer to someone that you rather not see your data.

One aspect that you need to be aware of is that if you backup your hard drive to another external device, you data remains encrypted. This is another level of protection afforded to you. However it comes with a price.

We will never forget

You will, when using File Vault, assign it a Master Password. Like all good passwords, it needs to be easy to remember but hard for someone to guess. Of course if you forget this master password, you won’t be able to access your data and you will not be happy. I found this out this past week when i was backing up someone’s encrypted data and they could not remember the Master Password they had assigned to their data. That made their documents, music, and photos toast. —- Tip —– Never forget.

This would be extremely critical for encrypted data stored on a removable device. Devise a way to remember the Master Password for this as well so that 3 years from now when you want to restore this data, you’ll know the password that is needed.

From The College of Muscial Knowledge

All of the sudden I am feeling “Beckmanesque”. This is a condition that makes you want to find 60’s obscure music for your blog.
