We’re into the final week of iDisk/MobileMe, and I know that all of you have made the migration to iCloud. You wouldn’t wait until the last minute, would you? Okay, if you have not made the move, do it now. Do not wait until the end of the week. I have visions of the servers being swamped by all of the last minute changeovers. I made the transition a few months ago, but as I wrote a few weeks ago, there have been some rough spots. The biggest headache has been with mail service going out for anywhere from 2 to 24 hours. I have to admit that I haven’t had any loss of mail service since mid-May. That’s when I set my email to forward a copy to my gmail account. Insurance. What can I say? No loss of service since I did it, and Mail does a nice job of filtering the duplicates. Now, if Mail on my iPad would do the same…
Anyway, once you’ve migrated to iCloud, don’t forget to retrieve any files you may have stored on your iDisk. When the servers shut down this weekend, those files will be gone forever. Apple has been sending notices to everyone. Just because, I decided to double check mine last week. I thought I had grabbed my stored files before, but it turned out that I had not. They’re probably files that I’ll never look at again, but a variation of Murphy’s Law says that if I don’t save them, I’ll need one of them eventually.
Last week Microsoft introduce their new tablet. No prices or release date yet. No real, concrete details as to little things like battery life. Oh, and the first one that they tried to demo froze, so they had to go to the backup. Some very clever people put together a great video, comparing the roll out of the Microsoft Surface to the Apple iPad. Very clever. Very funny.
