I’ve never hidden the fact that I’m an audiobook junkie. I’ve had an Audible account for more years than I can remember. I’ve also downloaded many books from the library. Some publishers will occasionally offer free copies of their books, but they can be a problem if you want to listen to them on an iPod or iPhone. The problem? iTunes sees them as plain music files. They won’t show as audiobooks, and if, like me, you use the Audible app to listen, the app won’t even recognized them. The fix is simple.
Copy the file(s) to iTunes, where they will show under Music. Select the title, bring up the information panel (Command-i) and go to the Options tab.
For Media Kind, toggle Music to Audiobook, check “Remember playback position” and “Skip when shuffling” then click OK. That’s it. The book goes from Music to Audiobooks, and when transferred to your iPod or iPhone it will be recognized as an audiobook and will be fully bookmarkable.
That’s it. Enjoy.
